So yeah, I totally loved the idea of creating a browser based exploration game. And it is something I still might end up doing. I have the resources, I have the PHP / MySQL / Ajax experience to create something like that. What I don’t have (right now anyway) is the time. Isn’t that what it always comes down to?

Dark Glass Productions and I have consolidated our time and resources, and we have already begun some revamping and continued development of HyperBorealis. That has become our first priority at this point.

Luckily, sweeping aside some unneeded projects and having a few changes in my life has made a bit of room for other things I want to work on. Namely, aside from the above mentioned game, Fraktion and my Metroid fan game.

Wait, what? “Metroid fan game” .. ? What happened to the “Ecliption” title? Well you know that new Metroid game – Other M – totally takes place at the same time that Ecliption was going to take place. Oh well. I have had so many iterations of that engine and story, it has been called ten different things, and another change shouldn’t be anything new. A lot about that game is going to change over the next few weeks. I am working on a storyline that should tie a lot of things in the Metroid universe together, without contradicting any new titles. Take that, Sakamoto!

In site related news: As much as I love WordPress, I have begun building a new platform for the Phazon Organization (one that is based off of a commercial project I am working on). It will feature roughly the same things as this blog, but with a few additions, like forum style discussion threads (instead of comments, and you won’t have to register) that will integrate with the eventual, if only miniature community board. I also don’t favor the WordPress admin panel, so I plan to build my own. Not sure when I will be launching the new version of the site. Oh, and MM1914, keep your mouth shut about this. I don’t wan’t to hear any “oh em gee version ten thousand six hundred and forty two point five” crap. The site will look all most exactly the same. It isn’t a new version so much as a platform change. So there.

Life. It is .. rather insane at times. Anyone who knows me knows that I tend to have an on-again, off-again approach to my projects, and to my web presence in general. I am pretty sure I am a moderator at a few different communities around the web, some I have not visited in years, some just not recently (ones I REALLY should be staying active in). For this, to those of you who are reading this that know me online, I apologize. Luckily things are slowing down a bit, which gives me a chance to schedule out my time.

It may seem sad, but yes, I am going to schedule out time to visit certain communities on the web each day. Otherwise I won’t visit those communities at all – and not because I don’t want to, but rather, because it just slips my mind or I get too involved in other things.

Recently a good friend of mine reminded me of a project I was (supposed to be) working on. And although I have many graphical resources I have created for it up to this point, I lack the time to put those resources to use in the form of a Game Maker created game. Not to mention I am getting a little rusty in my GM programming, and there are things about GM (even with the new version) that I don’t quite like anymore.

So, I am seriously considering turning one of my larger projects into a web based game, built on either Java or just JQuery and PHP with some advanced graphical stuff thrown in. No Flash, that is worse than trying to create this with Game Maker. Today I am going to sit down and really think out exactly how I could create this game in a browser based environment. I have a big story to tell, and I want people to be part of that story. So I guess we will see how this goes ..
