Other M? Wtf?

Metroid 2 Comments »

Watch the E3 2009 trailer:

What do you guys think?

Okay. So the name .. I get the reference. For those of you who do not:

So there you have it. The ending of the original Metroid. The “Other M” .. -etroid.

Honestly Nintendo, what has gotten into you? Team Ninja? Are you kidding me?

I get that it is still in development. I get that the graphics may become more polished. But it looks like another CG cartoon style Japanese game. They might as well have called this “Metroid: Final Fantasy”. And with a release date of some time in 2010, they do have a lot of time to polish this thing up, or a lot of time to make it even worse.

So I understand that a lot of people wanted a 3rd person Metroid game. Its a neat idea, given the fact that Metroid started out as a two dimensional side scroller. Does creating a three dimensional, third person game retain the same feeling as the original platformers? I think not. That is just my opinion though. I mean, this may shape up to be a great game. But from the looks of it, and after watching it about thirty times, I can honestly say I am disappointed. This is really not the direction I wanted to see my favorite video game series take.

But that is just my stupid opinion. Tell me what you guys think.

Its everywhere. The internet is filled with the nasty, spongy, robotic synthesized textual garbage we know as .. spam. I thought that for a moment (or a few months, rather) that I was immune to it. I figured, “Oh, no, with the low amount of traffic I get here, I doubt I will have to deal with any spam comments at all, much less an attack.” Damn, was I wrong or what? They came slowly at first, only one or two a day. Then I don’t log on for two days, and I check my email .. In which my inbox contains 69 new comment alerts for phazon.org. All garbage, all spam.

At this point I am thinking of disabling or requiring approval of comments on this website. I mean, the whole reason I put p.org into blog form was so I could get feedback. What kind of feedback do I get? Electronic ad ware gibberish. If anybody has any feedback or suggestions, I am all ears.

iPhone / iPod Touch Development

iPhone & iTouch Dev 1 Comment »

Before you dismiss this post – For all you Apple haters, just know I actually use Windows as my primary OS. However, when it comes to mobile devices (as in cell phone, PDA) the iPhone and iPod Touch own everything. Like, not just own. Completely double the competition. Nothing (that normal people can get) is even CLOSE to these things. Trust me, I know from experience, considering I have worked in the mobile electronics field for a few years. If you love games, especially awesome retro games, then you will love having one of these things. Its ultimate win. I mean, can you play Wolfenstein 3d on your Blackberry or your Palm? No. But I play it all the time on my iPhone. On to the post ..

Okay. So some may know, some may not know .. but Apple’s App Store for the iPhone and iPod touch is nearing one billion – thats right, a BILLION downloads. And that is in a matter of just under a years time. Insane. All I know is that there is major profits to be had for developers (no, money is not the only thing on my mind, although it is nice to have). I also know that a well developed game launched in the App Store can be the defining moment for a small studio trying to break into the market.

I am very happy to announce that myself and my genius grandfather are going to take up developing programs for the App Store. This includes, but is not limited to, creating games for sale and download. I doubt we will get our first project done anytime soon (maybe by the end of the year), mainly because we are waiting to do most of the core development once we get our hands on the 3.0 OS. I can’t really release any information on our first title yet, but I can say that it is most definitely a side scrolling platformer (there is quite a lack of good platformer games in the Store, so I think it may be a good niche, all things considered).

However, in the meantime, I am opening up the iPhone & iTouch Dev section of p.org.

This will include small programs and things that I am messing around with, as well as themes for Winterboard and some of the iPhone native apps. Obviously, you must have a jailbroken iPhone / iPod Touch to use anything that I develop outside of the App Store. If you don’t know what that means, Google “jailbreak iphone”. You should get a few million results. If I have time, I will write up a little FAQ about jailbreaking, and why you must do it to “skin” your iPhone & iTouch GUI.

So, to kick off the iPhone & iTouch sector, here is a nice theme for Winterboard. It is the Artikle theme, versions 1 & 2. Expect a phazon styled theme soon!

Artikle Version 1

Artikle Version 2

Download it here.

Before activating either version of the theme, make sure you read the readme.txt file!

Enjoy, and if you have any questions, feel free to drop me a comment here.

Fixed.

So, I “found” some time to “fix” the IE7 / IE8 problem. Site should look correct in Microcrap’s browsers now. I don’t really even know what I did, I just kind of messed with a few things here and there and it began working, could have been the phazon flakes I sprinkled on it .. Keep in mind, it ALWAYS worked for the other browsers. That is why I won’t remove my last “Get a Better Browser Day” post.

Anyways, aside from that, I apologize for the lack of updates. I have been quite preoccupied with the fact that my grandma is in the hospital, she is in the intensive care unit after having open heart surgery. They are trying to get a lot of things stabilized right now, not fun. I am sure she will be on a good road to recovery in a week or so though ..

Well, in the next update, I will be announcing something new. Until then ..

Internet Explorer = Fail.

General 1 Comment »

Thats right folks. You heard what I said. And if you are viewing this site in pretty much any version of IE, then it isn’t going to look correct.

Yes, I could fix it to where IE viewers can see the site correctly.

But that will take a lot of time that I would rather dedicate to making games.

So .. Today is Phazon.Org’s Get a Better Browser Day! Yay!

Here are some of the free web browsers that kick IE’s stupid face in:

Google Chrome

Google Chrome
This is a personal favorite of mine, as well as the browser I use by default. Google = win, IMO anyways.

Firefox

Firefox
This browser is immensely popular, and with good reason. It is reliable and well designed, and quickly becoming a standard.

Safari

Safari
Apple’s standard web browser. Now available for Windows users. Amazing, especially if you like Apple.

Opera

Opera
If it is good enough for the Wii and cell phones, it is good enough for you.

There are tons of other good browsers out there .. so take five minutes out of your day and get rid of that clunky, nasty, horribly designed ball and chain IE you have been dragging around for years, and get something worth while. Trust me, you won’t regret it. Plus this site (and many others) will actually look correct.

And, for those of you who just WON’T give up IE, I will eventually find some time to design an IE friendly version. Just for you. But don’t expect it any time soon.
